--A Message to You From Frank--

This is very important.

Before you start trying to play lead guitar, learn all the chord positions first. I realize most pickers want to play lead, "RIGHT NOW". Don't get in a hurry. Take one step at a time. Later on you will thank me for this advice.

Don't make the mistake a lot of lead guitarists have made. They started learning some lead licks from someone or they just made them up. They have no idea what it took to make those licks because they did not have any understanding of chords that make up those licks.

Here's the reason I am giving you this advice, I want you to get a good start on becoming a great guitarist. You will never know how to play tunes you hear if you don't understand what it takes to put chords together.

If you learn and understand all I have put in this
guitar course, you will have the knowledge to start
playing lead in a short time.

--When I began playing the guitar--

As far back as I can remember, I saw and heard my Dad, Mother, Uncle and Aunt playing music with their friends.

Me as a little boy, I loved that sound. They let me hold a guitar, that was bigger then I was. I thought I was a great big boy with that guitar.

As time went on, my fingers grew a little longer. I now could hold down some strings on the guitar neck. Sure did sound good to me. I have no idea how it sounded to anyone else. This was the beginning for me.

I would practice and practice as much as my parents would let me. They told me I had to take time out to eat, sleep and go to school. Got like a bad habit, I could not quite playing that guitar.

By the time I was 10 years old I knew all the simple chords on my guitar neck. I even got to set in with the others that played music in church. That was a great thrill for me as a 10 year old.

I would watch every guitar picker I could very close to see what new things I could learn. Then I would practice hours and hours on what I had seen.

--The Following is some great advice--

If I could not figure out a lick or do it the way I wanted to, I would try another one that was easy for me to do. I have always said, there are too many licks to choose from to just get hung up on one that is difficult to learn. Do those licks you feel comfortable doing and practice-practice-practice until you get them sounding like you want.

I figured out how to do lots of licks and styles because, I knew and understood the chords that made up the keys on my guitar neck.

After completing my course you will know the neck of your guitar from one end to the other. You will easily recognize what other guitar pickers are doing just at a glance.

What ever you do, don't copy some other guitar picker's style. Just be yourself and be known by your own style.
